Here's a little gem from the folks at Invictus, the debut from Canadian metal act Occult Burial, titled Hideous Obscure. These guys no doubt have a love for the very early days of the extreme & thrash metal scenes of the mid '80s, as their raw, speedy sound invokes images of early Destruction, Sodom, Venom, Hellhammer, Possessed, and Kreator. High pitched vocal rasps & screams pierce a jagged wall of razor sharp guitar riffs and frantic drumming, and with the cavernous sounding production, tunes such as "Black Adoration", "Jackal Head", "Hades Son" and "Blasted Death" sound like they came out of a time capsule from 1985. Many of the guitar riffs and molten solos are quite fun, especially on the title cut, "Occult Burial", and "Ancient Returns", and overall it all sounds pretty old school and primal, instantly taking longtime metal fans back to an era when the dawn of the extreme metal world began. Good stuff.
