Raging Speedhorn/Monster Magnet: DesertFest London Vol.2

The DesertFest festival is fast becoming one of London's most memorable weekends, this year's celebration of the stoner/desert sound (which begins on April 29th) being the fifth. Just as they did last year with UK act Karma To Burn and their US cousins Sons Of Alpha Centauri, DesertFest have produced a two track 'split' 7" single to coincide with the festival itself. Keeping up the theme of a cross Atlantic collaboration, this year's release finds "Halfway To Hell", a track from the forthcoming Lost Ritual album from UK outfit Raging Speedhorn, nestling neatly alongside "Hallucination Bomb", a song initially released by US stoner titans Monster Magnet on their 2010 album Mastermind.

Fans of either band will need to be ultra-quick off the mark, the 7" limited to only 350 copies (150 on clear red vinyl, the remaining 200 on clear orange) and while both these monstrous slabs of towering guitars, atmospheric vocals and ground shaking drums may already be available elsewhere, there's no denying this 7" is a thing of beauty. "Halfway To Hell" itself is an energetic fist of riffs courtesy of the underrated Jim Palmer and Jamie Thompson on guitar. Frank Regan's ability to veer from full force howl to threatening growls, impressive. While "Hallucination Bomb" is the mighty double M at their imperious best, Ed Mundell and Phil Caivano laying down the grooves rich and thick, the irrepressible Dave Wyndorf ever the vocal master.

Pre-orders for these classic sounds presented on this classic format begin on March 29th; you do not want to miss out; the first 50 even come with an exclusive coaster! Superb!
