Savage Master: With Whips and Chains

From Louisville, Kentucky comes Savage Master, a snarling, 'savage' beast of a band fronted by the impressive vocal skills of one Stacey 'Savage' Peak, and also featuring the twin guitar attack of Adan Neal & Larry Myers as well as the formidable rhythm team of bassist Brandon Brown and drummer Zach Harris. The band clearly has a love for vintage, early '80s metal, specifically acts such as Cirith Ungol, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate, Warlock, Omen, Bitch, and Fates Warning, even earning themselves the tag of 'occult heavy metal' along the way. Occult or not, Savage Master have certainly honed in on a classic era in the history of metal, and their sophomore release With Whips and Chains is a dark, serious collection of headbanging anthems that any longtime fan of the genre will enjoy.

Led by the powerful vocals of Ms. Savage, the band crank out one heavy track after another here, each one memorable, with some classic sounding riffs that just scream 1983. "Path of the Necromancer", "Vengeance of Steel", "Looking for a Sacrifice", the crushing "Satan's Crown", and the galloping title track are all great examples of the dark, vintage sounding metal that Savage Master can conjure up. For her part, Stacey sounds like a mix between Doro and Cirith Ungol's Tim Baker, and she's especially venomous on the raging "Burned at the Stake" as well as the Judas Priest influenced "Ready to Sin". Riffs are lethal throughout, as well as plenty of tasty twin guitar excursions, so if you love the glory years of the early '80s, then grab a copy of With Whips and Chains and relive them all over again.
