Churchhouse Creepers: From Party to Apocalypse

It won't take long for you to figure out that the album title matches up nicely with the first and last tracks. The title is also a good expression of what this band does best: write playful and groovy party-oriented music that is both fun and intelligent. This isn't the dance music of lame junior high dances, the kind that establishes a beat so loud and intrusive that there's no point in talking. Instead, this material brings people together with its stoner-soaked sensibility and its romping good time. This music belongs at your party—put it on next time the gang visits and you'll have enough entertainment for the night.

I suspect that most listeners will find the music familiar; the progressive tendencies, the bop-like rhythms, and the commitment to groove displayed here are not new, but they are terrific. Added to that, this album is fun. Here's my recommendation: check out "Satan Waits," "Apocalypse" and "No Monday." If that satisfies you, then you're in luck because the rest of the album is pretty great, too. The album art is also worth a careful look. Get a load of that evil cat!
