Wishing Well: Chasing Rainbows

Wishing Well are a Melodic Classic Rock band that hails from Finland. Their debut album, Chasing Rainbows, (Inverse Records) has just been released and the band is made up of vocalist Peter James Goodman, drummer Rip Radioactive, bassist Richard Becker and guitarist Anssi Korkiakoski.

This debut opens with the title track, "Chasing Rainbows", which has a decidedly 70's Classic Rock flavor to it, with a slick and somewhat catchy chorus line to it. The first single from the album is "Hippie Heart Gypsy Soul", which features the legendary Graham Bonnet on vocals and this winds up being one of the best tunes on the album. In stark contrast to Mister Bonnet, Goodman's vocals remind me of a much more subdued Bruce Dickinson without all of the operatic flair. "Luck Is Blind" is a mid paced song that demonstrates the Dickinson comparison and is this song also features some piano and a melodic chorus.

Although I have seen some reviews of this record out there that have mentioned Wishing Well and this Chasing Rainbow debut in the Metal realm, I really just don't hear it. I hear 70's Classic Rock fused with some Harder Rock elements that create a slight Metallic sheen in spurts, but to call this band a "Metal Band" is quite a stretch. Fan's of 70's era Hard Rock might find this record interesting, but as much as I LOVE everything 70's, I found this debut to be a little uninteresting and not engaging to me. I found the riffs to be watered down and generic and just quite humdrum. Not terrible, just humdrum.
