Aniqatia: Luminous

Here we have the sophomore EP from Pennsylvania post rock/prog act Aniqatia, containing five tracks of haunting melodies, lulling arrangements, and an overall positive vibe. Though there are moments of metallic thunder, it would be a stretch to call this a 'metal' album, but there are plenty of stark, post rock styled atmosphere on "February" and "The Heiress", mixed with layers of prog guitar textures and pop vocal hooks. "Like Leaves" rings like a bastard child of The Cure, Anathema, and U2, while the driving grooves of "Apollo" remind of Explosions in the Sky, perhaps with some new wave influence thrown in. Pleasant stuff all around, kinda proggy in spots, atmospheric, and a few pop hooks thrown in for good measure. Luminous is one of those little releases that probably deserves to get heard by a wider audience than it is ultimately destined to, so give it a go and spread the word.
