Bloodbound: One Night of Blood (CD/DVD)

There's a quote on the press release for this CD/DVD attributed to HammerFall's Oscar Dronjak which merely says of Bloodbound, "This is a typical Swedish heavy metal band and I say that in a very positive way." Like so many of their compatriots (the much missed Dream Evil spring readily to mind) they play unabashedly uncomplicated heavy metal with choruses scientifically designed to bring forth much fist pumping and head banging.

The reason for the release of One Night of Blood's release is that that band are planning to expand as a touring entity – something which has not always been helped by a revolving door policy towards vocalists in particular. In fact within a few days of writing this the band arrive in the UK alongside Sabaton and Alestorm. I plan to be in Manchester to see them and this album will be on heavy rotation between now and then as it is firstly a good record in its own right and secondly the live versions are sufficiently different from their recorded counterparts to be worthy of listening. If you are unfamiliar with the band this is a good place to start but if you don't like songs about the awesomeness of metal stay well clear.

Bloodbound: One Night of Blood (CD/DVD)

My Score:

Sweden's Bloodbound have been quite busy over the course of their now 10 year career, with six studio albums to show for themselves and a myriad of personnel changes in that time period as well, especially with their lead singers. Patrik Johansson now serves as their frontman, and he leads the band through this live set recorded at the Master of Rock Festival in 2015. Covering many of the most well known gems from their catalog, One Night of Blood is no frills, powerful & melodic power metal, complete with big riffs, anthemic choruses, pounding drums, and a sprinkling of keyboards, all played in front of a crowd that was apparently loving every minute of it. I mean, when a band has written songs called "In the Name of Metal" and "Metalheads Unite", you know exactly what you are going to get, right? This double disc set contains a DVD and CD of the full show, with the DVD containing some cool bonus videos and other assorted live clips, and it all comes in a nice expanded digipack filled with photos from the concert. If you want a great introduction to Bloodbound, this live set from AFM Records is the way to go.
