Dead Procession: Rituais e mantras do Medo

The biggest problem with this album is not the music, but actually getting access to it. Dead Procession has mostly released its work only on cassette and this release (the band's first full-length) is no exception. I'm not sure if a digital download will even be available and I don't see much of an internet presence for this band either. I understand that the scarcity (and the mystery) of Dead Procession will add to the band's overall charm. Still, I'd like to recommend something that people will actually be able to find.

As for the music, it's an impressive and melancholy stripped-down counterpoint to black metal. I could describe it as ambient / drone music, but it's something more than that. The band's name says it best: this is dark processional music, written in response to the power and the mystery of death. Even though many metal bands invoke the term "ritual," the music on this album really sounds like the background to a sacred ritual to acknowledge the power of death and to find some meaning out of it. Most of the songs rely on the power of the drums to create not only a powerful, hypnotic, call to order, but also to lead the way through this musical journey through sadness itself. The vocals, always deep in the background, sound a consistent lament while the keyboards lay down a simple drone. I enjoyed this album because of its minimalist approach to the music and because of the way the drums amplified the overall sad and ambient mood. This is an album worth discovering—if you can find it.
