Elvenking: The Night Of Nights Live (CD/ DVD)
I have a huge soft spot for Italian folk/power metallers Elvenking, possibly because I interviewed them once and found them to be both humble and pleasing company or equally possibly because they have consistently made solid records now for nigh on two decades. I even forgive them for cancelling a UK tour not too long ago and they remain on my bucketlist of bands I would like to see. For now The Night of Nights will have to suffice. As the sharp-eyed will have noticed the package is available as a DVD/2CD Digipak, including the full show (25 songs and more than two hours playing time) on both DVD and CD. The DVD additionally includes the six official promotional video clips as a bonus. I have only had access to the aural version.
The great thing about Elvenking is that they have loads of top Pagan-inflected songs which I am confident work even better live than on record – fancy a power metal jig? Take your pick – I suggest "Neverending Nights" but you won't go wrong with any of this comprehensive package. The female vocals on the utterly wonderful "Seasonspeech" go some way to halting any one trick pony criticisms but if you are looking for a way in to a tremendous band here it is.
