Gothenburg, Sweden's very own Bombus are set to make a big splash here in 2016, as they've just come off a tour as direct support to the mighty Clutch with a brand spanking new album for Century Media titled Repeat Until Death. With their new bass player Ola Henriksson (ex-Witchcraft, ex-Troubled Horse) in tow, Bombus have crafted nine new songs here littered with hard rock & metal muscle, melodic yet gritty, with anthemic tracks like "Rust", "Eyes of the Price", and "Deadweight" bringing to mind the thump of Grand Magus mixed with a touch of Thin Lizzy for good measure. "Head of Flies" is an upbeat blast of party metal that wouldn't sound out of place on an AC/DC or KISS album, while the lush, almost proggy ballad "I Call You Over (Hairy Teeth, Pt)" sees soaring vocals and keyboards drenched in the mix, offering up another side to the band that deviates greatly from their otherwise hard rocking attack. Perhaps the strongest tunes here though are the galloping title track and the kick ass stoner vibe of "You the Man", each one filled with plenty of guitar thunder and gravelly yet catchy vocals, bringing vintage as well as modern flavors together for a winning formula.
Bombus definitely have their own sound, and it's fully on display here throughout Repeat Until Death. This one is easy to recommend, so pick yourself up a copy, and repeat until, well, until you can't spend another minute without it.
