DC Sound Collective: A Memory Of Errors Vol. 2

A Memory Of Errors Vol. 2 is the companion piece to the first volume which was also recently released. The music is somewhat similar although in Volume 2 there is more of an ambient feel to the overall sound culminating in the spacey yet mellow album ending track "Apophis 2" where the instrumentation takes time to build before erupting with razor-like guitar bursts, punchy bass and heavier drums. The guitar solo certainly has a metallic flavour. The first few tracks are quite ambient with the occasional nod to progressive rock beginning with "Intro/Two Chord Vamp" which also adds some world elements, particularly the percussion. "Cloud-Hidden" is another ambient piece with a floating soundscape of keyboards and flute as is the mellow "Having a Moment" highlighted with gentle wisps of cymbals and soft fuzzy guitar leads. In "Machete" the style is more jazz fusion brimming with jazzy lead guitar and blanketed with an exotic Eastern melody led by some outstanding flute flavourings. For a more folksy vibe try the lilting flute melody in the short "Galliard".

Being an all instrumental album I feel this is a slim notch above Volume 1 therefore earning 3.5 stars. For those of you who seek the spacey ambient style with the occasional flurry of heaviness added to the mix, A Memory Of Errors should provide some nice listening.
