Gunn, Andy: Miracle Of Healing

Scottish bluesman Andy Gunn has been around for a while now having just released his fourth album Miracle Of Healing. Besides his solo career Gunn also plays guitar in his band Jumpin' the Gunn.

Now I have always loved the Blues but I must admit it has fallen to the wayside as far as my listening goes. You know the story, so much music and so little time. Having no preconceived notion of what this artist is all about Miracle Of Healing came as a very nice surprise. First and foremost Gunn is a wonderful player. His bluesy licks are heard throughout and are always tasty and well played. His tone on the album opening "Are We Thru?" is clean and fluid moving along with the steady groove of bass and drums. It's a mellower tune but with fiery lead guitar that soars throughout. The uplifting "Black Heart" combines pretty acoustic and bluesy electric leads. Gunn's vocals are soulful and melodic, complimenting his instrumental ability in all the right ways. One of the more poignant offerings is the pretty ballad "Beyond The Open Door" while "Brighter Days" is an airy bluesy shuffle with excellent harmonica, perky organ and another slow drawn blues guitar solo.

The prettiest song is the album ending country tinged "Road That Leads Back Home" where Gunn's vocals are more delicate and fragile and the background harmonizing is sublime. A beautiful way to end the album. If you appreciate the soulful sound of Blues music Miracle Of Healing should make a nice addition to your collection.
