You can pretty much count on Iron Bonehead to consistently release some ferocious extreme metal from the underground, and this debut from Polish/German act Chthonic Cult, titled I Am the Scourge of Eternity, is no exception. Set to be released in early January 2016 on both CD and LP, this black/death metal release features the trio of Hyperborean (guitars, vocals), Skandaz (bass), and
D.S.P. (drums). Comprised of four epic length tracks, I Am the Scourge of Eternity is raw, primal extreme metal that draws not only from the modern scene but also the underground acts of the '80s. Certainly, you can hear a bit of Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Venom, and Possessed during such manic, filthy tracks as "As the Void Beckons" and "The Abyss Triumphant", and some doom elements as well as thrashy Motorhead styled passages appear on "Asunder!" and the near 14-minute title track. Jagged guitar riffs, booming bass, frantic drumming, and gravelly growls permeate these four long songs, and while much of it sounds like it was recorded in someone's basement, that's sort of the charm of this album. It ain't pretty, and without a doubt far from slick, but I Am the Scourge of Eternity doesn't try to be anything but what it is, and that's grimy, wretched, brutal underground extreme metal. Job well done.
