December 2015 marks the 20th Anniversary of the progressive metal group Divided Multitude. Divided Multitude are also releasing a self titled album, and the news of this new album sure was met with substantial enthusiasm by myself. As I took an instant liking to their heavy and melodic material on Feed On Your Misery Divine Multitude's last studio recording back in 2013, and it continues to draw me back thanks to stellar songs like the title track and "What I See". After the time I've spent with this album the band's newer material also has substantial appeal, so Divided Multitude is another one to keep an eye out for.
I have no complaints about the band's vocals on this new album only very positive thoughts, and there are also notable guest appearances from vocalists Brian Ashland (Shadow Gallery/Eden) on "Proud" and Terje Harøy (Pyramaze/ Crossnail) on "Demise". If you like catchy progressive metal tunes with added heaviness, powerful melodic vocals and fetching input from the guitar and keyboards then that's what you get on Divided Multitude. The band are technically adept, though they don't go overboard with unnecessary progressive wankery and their songs are all the better for it. You can also hear other influences in their songs besides progressive metal which adds to the variety. Divided Multitude's blend of hardened metal is flowing through "Immortal" and this album sure has plenty more of that, there are also those cool additions like the extra vocals on "Only For You". Divine Multitude have one heavy duty rhythm section that brings the goods like that on "How Many Tears" which is a great mid paced headbanger. Divided Multitude continue to release impressive albums and when these guys get it right boy do they deliver, though as good as this album is I really do feel that Divided Multitude's finest album is yet to be released.
