Raging Dead: Born In Rage

Sporting face paint that lands somewhere between Kiss and the Misfits, Italy's Raging Dead arrive with a six track EP to scare us with their horror punk… well kinda.

Siting acts such as Wednesday 13, Rob Zombie and Marylin Manson as inspiration, it's the final band in the 'influence list' that makes the strongest impression here. The feel being that if Skid Row had gone and gotten Udo Dirkschneider (Accept/UDO) to front them after they gave Seb Bach the boot, Born In Rage might be the outcome. So Raging Dead might be punky in attitude, but they are more beefed up, Skid Row meets Faster Pussycat in execution.

In itself that's no bad thing, "Scratch Me" and "Nightstalker" proving that they can churn out some chunky riffs and back them up with a snot nosed, punchy attitude, while the surge of "Vengeance" is really quite memorable. The vocals of Cloud Shade (it's a better stage-name than Slight Drizzle, I suppose) are rough, very rough in fact, but intentionally so, his grating bark adding an edge that doubtless some will struggle with and yet without him Raging Dead wouldn't make half the impact they do.

Early days for Raging Dead, but this debut EP, Born In Rage, introduces them reasonably well and snags the interest for what comes next.
