For those Revocation fans who perhaps didn't far back enough in their catalog to check out their 2008 self-released debut Empire of the Obscene, Metal Blade has certainly given you every reason to do so now, thanks to this brand new reissue of that debut, which also contains some bonus demo tracks from even earlier for good measure. The Boston act shows their burgeoning thrash/death metal style here in all its infancy, with ripping guitars, massive grooves, and a hell of a lot of attitude on tracks like "Exhumed Identity", "Tail From the Crypt", and "Suffer These Wounds". We sometimes tend to forget just how technical the guitar work on any given Revocation album really is, and you can hear all those deliciously intricate fills, solos, and riffs on "Fields of Predation", "Age of Iniquity", and the speedy "Summon the Spawn" , each one a guitar lovers delight. The demo tracks, though of obviously lesser quality from a production standpoint and slightly rough around the edges, are still pretty impressive consider how green the band were at the time.
Basically, if you hopped on the Revocation wagon later in their career and haven't yet made it all the way back to their debut, now's the perfect time to do so.
