Caustic Method: The Virus

The Virus is the debut full length outburst from New York State brutalisers Caustic Method. Style wise they land somewhere between Cavalera Conspiracy, Pantera and Hatbreed, which in anyone's book ain't a bad place to be. Where is a bad place to be however, is wherever Caustic Method are telling us about. "The Virus", "Left To Die Alone" and "Six Feet" a taste of the hardly happy go lucky tale they have to tell. However with vocalist Matt Caustic a throat shredder with control, power and precision, the message comes across with the hard hitting, convincing aggression required to bullet these songs deep into your brain.

Considering the tumultuous assault on the sense, that CM are a one guitar outfit comes as a surprise, Darin Scott (thankfully not all the band have Caustic as their "surname"), hammering out riff after riff, "S.D.V." and "Fool Me Once" an utter barrage of guitar greatness. However the strength of this foursome is that they turn out to be a mighty collective proposition from start to finish, as they steamroll all guns blazing, no prisoners taken, all fair in love and war. Admittedly, the assault is all out, there's little variance and if there's one thing Caustic Method are not interested in (as their name suggests), it's any sort of compromising restraint. However the single mindedness works in this band's favour, an unwillingness to stray from the path they've lain down only building the heady atmosphere as the album plays out.

Early days for Caustic Method, but this is an impressive beginning.
