Transport League: Napalm Bats and Suicide Dogs

Bands like Transport League thrive on groove, swagger, rhythm, and energy. Comparable to bands like Clutch and, perhaps, the hard rock phase of The Cult, Transport League performs music with a rock and roll attitude, the kind of stuff you'd hear after midnight in a dark and sweaty nightclub. The songs are largely built on a mixture of heaviness and seduction. Check out, for example, the song "Bag of Bones," particularly the way the singer plays with whispers and singing to create a sense of power and intimacy. I liked "Bag of Bones" because it's also the name of one of my favorite Stephen King novels. More importantly, the song also shows off this band's chops, attitude, and purpose. After listening to a few songs, most listeners will get the idea. But this isn't music to pass over because it's familiar. Instead, keep it around for a late night drive, a fist-pumping air guitar workout, or for that dark and sweaty club. More than anything else, Transport League wants you to have a good time. So put on "The Goddess and the Mad Man" or "Hallelujah Vampire" and enjoy.
