Stahlmann: CO2

According to their bio (because they haven't made much of a splash outside Germany) Stahlmann began their career with the release of their debut EP Herzschlag, before the band who are built around their charismatic frontman Mart signed with AFM Records and released their eponymous album Stahlmann in late 2010. Quecksilber quickly followed it as did a third album Adamant and both of these efforts went into the German Top 40 album chart.

Their bio also describes the band (and Mart in particular) as, "unique, "and, "original," which is not exactly how I would describe CO2. The strength and weakness of this album is how very, very much it sounds like Rammstein. It is truly remarkable. I can't listen to "Sadist" in particular and not imagine Till Lindemann banging his head in his own unique style and this is hugely problematic. There's nothing remotely original on the record. Anywhere. I've heard it all before, mostly done better. If Rammstein released this as their next release it would probably be a slight let-down given their towering achievements thus far but that is an indication of how Rammstein-lite this is. There's nothing terrible with CO2 in terms of the songs, performances nor production other than its wholly reductive and unoriginal.
