Nuclear: Formula for Anarchy

A quick look at the song titles on this release will show that Nuclear is a band committed to the music and the message of 80s thrash. All the components are here: warfare, religious hypocrisy, corporate greed, and sheer anger. Thrash is bigger than its individual parts, but there's certainly no harm in returning to any one of them, either. The best songs on this album ("Scam 38," "Left for Dead," and "Self-Righteous Hypocrites") are those that understand how the traditional elements of thrash are supposed to operate and use them for all their worth. It's fair to suggest that many of the problems that faced the world in the 1980s are still with us; they may even be worse now than they were then. Nuclear is especially good at calling out those who would corrupt other people in the name of money or power or belief. Yes, we've heard such things before, but this band backs it all up with speed, aggression, and strength. Indeed, Nuclear is a band that with no shortage of energy; each song attacks listeners' ears with the full and combined powers of music, politics, and fury. Check out "Corporate Corruption" for not only a killer riff, but also a terrific takedown of how people in power take advantage of the poor. I'm sure that some listeners will say that all these songs sound the same, that they are cut from the same cloth. Thrash songs do bear a strong resemblance to one another, but I don't think that's a liability. Thrash is all about anger, strength, and power, performed with the relentlessness of punk rock so that its ideas, musical or political, cannot be missed or misunderstood. Fans of thrash will enjoy this one.
