Saviours: Palace of Vision

The guys from Saviours are back with their first new full-length release in four years. The last album, Death's Procession was a solid release, but I never quite connected to it as much as I'd hoped. Sure, I recognized the powerful riffs and the generally good songwriting, but something was missing. With this album, though, Saviours offers listeners something that connects in all the right ways. The album cruises along smoothly and powerfully, simultaneously grounded in the class sound of NWOBHM and doom metal. Saviours also has roots in hardcore punk, some of which show up from time to time. Like the excellent band Venemous Maximus, Saviours plays the music that they love and that they want to hear. For them, it's all about the furious guitar attacks of the past blended with the swagger and attitude of hardcore punk. Fans of bands like Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Motorhead, and other classic bands will hear multiple lines of influence here. But Saviours is more than the sum of its parts. This is original heavy metal, played to perfection. Fans of doom metal should also find plenty to enjoy here. I loved this album and I hope others will find it to be just as strong.
