Skinless: Only the Ruthless Remain

I've recently been listening to the latest release by Bone Gnawer, Kam Lee's horror death metal project that focuses most of its attention on cannibalism. I thought the album was terrific; I was especially fond of the way Bone Gnawer gives listeners fast and intense music that doesn't lack a sense of humor. I mention all that because Skinless belongs in the same category as Bone Gnawer. No, I don't think the bands are doing exactly the same thing, but they both play extreme death metal with technical proficiency and with the kind of intensity many of us appreciate. In some ways, Skinless is even more proficient—at least in the way they perform the music. This album is technically very rich, especially in the guitars. Check out the opening track ("Serpenticide") for a good introduction to what these guys do with twin guitars.

I feel like I'm introducing readers to Skinless; as many people know, this band has actually been around for a long time. For the last seven years, the band has been quiet, but they classic 90s lineup is now back and ready for another round of face melting mayhem. I'm sure plenty of fans will be excited about this release, especially since it's so good. No, I didn't follow Skinless in their heyday, but I'm sure I would have loved them. With this album, the band shows no sign of giving us nothing less than a dark, vicious, and powerful musical attack.
