Sabhankra: Seers Memoir

Here is another melodic death metal band for you in the form of Turkish metaller's Sabhankra. The band has been around since the early 2000s and released their debut in 2006 followed by three EPs. Seers Memoir is their second full length album and was released in December, 2014. Band members include Savas Sungur (guitars, keyboards), Suha Kozbey (guitars), Gurkan Yucel (bass) and Mehmet Engin (drums).

What makes this band better than your average death metal outfit is how they incorporate moody bits into their brutally heavy soundscapes. There is a great use of effects and keyboards throughout including the first track "Pyron". After an atmospheric start the heavy riffs begin with a vengeance followed by a cool keyboard solo adding colour to the bone crushing riffs. At the beginning of "Against The False Gods" the guitar is less intense before the tempo increases to a blinding pace led by rollicking bass and furious drum action. In the title track, power metal guitar riffs, cool background keys and nifty tempo changes will keep the listener on their toes. My favourite is probably the anthemic "We March" and its fantastic combination of atmospheric mood and galloping riffs.

Although I am not the world's biggest fan of death metal I have to say I really enjoyed this album. Any fan of heavy music should give this one a shot.
