Ugly Guys, The: Still Twenty-Five In Your Head

The Ugly Guys are a British pub rock band that formed in 2003. Still Twenty-Five In Your Head is their fifth album to date.

The band is a throwback to American roots rock and features Andy Farrell (bass guitar, vocals), Vic Collins (electric and acoustic guitar, vocals), Steve Oliver (lead guitar, acoustic and baritone guitars, mandolin, banjo, dobro, keyboards, vocals), Paul Shuttleworth (lead vocals) and Bob Clouter (drums). This album might not appeal to many of our readers but the band are very good at what they do, combining rock and country in a catchy and agreeable way. Songs like the wistful country ballad "Neon Sky", the country and western nugget that is "Plains Of Mexico" featuring nice Spanish guitar, the downhome hoedown of "Uncle Billy" featuring some pretty mean banjo and tasty acoustic guitar and the pure country drawl of "Wind Of Fate", a heartwarming ballad, are decent enough tracks and make for pretty engaging country rock tunes. The rest of the album is much of the same with plenty of catchy melodies and easy flowing tunes.

I have to admit I am not the biggest fan of country music but I certainly have an appreciation for some of the past greats. You get the feel these guys do as well.
