Huntress: Static

The highly anticipated 3rd album from Left Coast beasts, Huntress, is primed and ready to entangle your Metal being with their powerful new record, Static (Napalm Records). The bands brutal approach and razor sharp Metal have made their rise in the Metal world a steady one.

Fronted by the equally enthralling and bewitching Jill Janus, Huntress set out to create their heaviest and also catchiest material to date with Static and mission accomplished. The 10 tracks are made up of powerful and menacing music that allows Janus to utilize her soaring 4 octave vocals to their fullest and shows that female singers can also sing with BALLS!

Lead off track, "Sorrow", gets right to the point with a manic intro and a catchy chorus that will get stuck in your head for the rest of the day. "Brian" has that Ghost/Mercyful Fate feel to it that is oh so good and coupled with Janus' beautiful vocal chops, it makes for an interesting mix. "Flesh" begins with a kick ass riff and is another example of their melodic catchiness slabbed together with a metallic-tinge.

What makes Static so good is that the overall production is sonically pleasing. The guitars are piercing and the bottom end and drums make a powerful statement. But it's Jill Janus' vocals that are the clear focus with this band, as they should be, as her vocals pave the way for how it should be done by Female Metal singers. Janus brings the snarl, the pristine and everything inbetween and it is easy to see why she has also gained a lot of hype of the years, especially with prowess on stage.

Static is a record that should take Huntress to the next level in their quest for Metaldom. The songs are heavy, catchy and fierce and all with wickedly precise vocal hooks. This should find a home with fans both new and old, as this album flat out Rocks!
