Deiphago: Into the Eye of Satan

The music on this album pushes listeners into dark corners and never shows any signs of relief. It can best be described with words like "crushing," "disturbing," "powerful," and "chaotic," but none of them would be quite right. This is underground black metal played with an avant-garde artist's flair for pushing audiences into new and uncomfortable directions. At times, things sound like noise while at other times they sound like black metal that has rediscovered its terrible roots. Rhythm and meter are hard to discern—and you can forget about anything approaching melody. There are also some crazy guitar solos (see, for example, the title track). From start to finish, nothing is conventional or safe. This isn't the kind of album one puts on for some quite reflection. I didn't always enjoy the chaos of the whole thing, but I did think that the title track "Into the Eye of Satan" was excellent, as was "Red Dragon of Chaos." The rest of the album will please some and not others. It's noisy and crazy, but it all adds up to some interesting underground black metal.
