Enraged: It's Your Fear That Feeds Their Power

It's Your Fear That Feeds Their Power is a simply fantastic name for an album that's set to terrorise your senses and refuse to compromise as it bulldozes all in its path. And yet what Enraged have raised from the depths here is an utter groove monster of an album that admittedly is hardly shy in hacking its way into your mind. The album itself was released in the dark midsts of time (well, 2012…) and yet its authentic melodic death attack hits every bit as hard right now as I'm sure it did on day of release. There's no doubt the core line-up of guitarist Jens Van Der Valk, drummer Douwe Talma, guitarist Tjaard Wapstra and vocalist Jitse Schregardus are mightily capable of bursting your ear drums, as they caress your sense with an iron fist. However a guest list including James Murphy (Death, Testament, Obituary), Andy Laroqcue (King Diamond, Death), Christoffer Malmstrom (Darkane) and Jens van der Valk (God Dethroned, Autumn), was never liable to hurt was it? The strength of the solos on the album something to behold.

For an album of such uncompromising intent, it is the arrangements and the occasional short spoken word sections (which are expertly woven into the songs when they appear) that raise Enraged and this album above the norm. Well that and the fact that "The Cleansing" veers madly from staccato break down to jabbing fists of fury and that "Global Conspiracy/Invisible Oppressors" hammers home with furious force, as it builds layers of melodic mayhem and muscular groove-fests.

The amount of melodic death acts out there grows by the minute and it is that very fact which can cause even the good - or in this case very good - ones to slip through the net. If It's Your Fear That Feeds Their Power didn't cause your radar to go haywire three years ago, then you need to first, get your equipment checked and second, get you lug holes round Enraged and discover what your missing. The only down side? That it all seems to have gone quiet from this band since. Here's hoping we feel Enraged again soon!
