I can barely begin to say how little I enjoyed this upon my first listen but suffice to say, in the words of 1980's UK magician, "Not a lot." In fact, possibly not at all. Fortunately I decided to give it ago when I was in a better, more receptive mood and now I have been converted to the church of the Canadian power quintet with singer Brittney Slayes leading the charge.
Arguably it's Ms Slayes' astonishingly versatile and soaring vocal prowess which is the band's main USP and when added to carefully deployed growl vocals as on "Crypt" something very special occurs. Not every song is as strong and I haven't warmed at all to "No More Heroes" possibly as I was expecting a Stranglers' cover version, however, if you are seeking a band who play metal of the power variety but don't stick to the same old clichés and codes and conventions then try this one out.
