Abrahams, Mick: Revived! (CD/DVD)

Mick Abrahams, the original guitarist for Blodwyn Pig and Jethro Tull is back with a new album titled Revived!. It is a fitting title since this is first album since suffering a stroke in 2009. On the album Abrahams and his crack band cover a wide range of material from Canned Heat to Chuck Berry and include a few originals as well.

The first track "Summer Day" is an excellent rocker with soulful vocals courtesy of Peter Eldridge and excellent guitar licks from Abrahams. The instrumental "Elz. & Abys" features spry Hammond and bluesy guitar jams whereas "Remember" is all blues with scintillating harmonica, rollicking Hammond and Abrahams and Bernie Marsden sharing slow burning guitar solos.

This is one of the most upbeat albums I have heard in a long time. Just listen to the feel good toe tappers "I'm A Hog For You", The Coasters "What About Us?" and the Chuck Berry classic "Nadine" to get you out of the doldrums.

Two of my favourires are "On the Road Again" and "I can Tell", both bluesy rockers with the latter featuring some excellent soloing from Martin Barre.

The album ends with an alternate version of "Summer Day", this time filled with the Hammond of Josh Phillips.

The accompanying DVD features an in depth look at the making of the album and some of the performers who took part.

These are just a bunch of songs that Abrahams' loves to play and I can't think of a better reason to make an album. I should also mention half the proceeds from album sales goes to the Kids 'n' Cancer charity. A very classy move indeed. A Gonzo Multimedia release.
