Primal Fear: Seven Seals (remastered)

I'm not sure how much demand there is for a reissue of Primal Fear's sixth album, Seven Seals, but here it is. Originally released in 2005 by Nuclear Blast Records, this concept album about the age-old battle between good and evil now comes in a slick, limited-edition digipak version featuring (unfortunately) no bonus material.

Listening to Seven Seals 10 years on, it's easy to understand why Primal Fear once were considered an upper-tier European power-metal band. Taking influences from Judas Priest and Gamma Ray, and inspiring the likes of Dragonforce, Primal Fear made memorable metal with shrieking vocals, epic riffs and double-bass drumming before that sound went stale. The band — led by bassist Mat Sinner and vocalist Ralf Scheepers — was near the top of its game in terms of both songwriting and performing. Highlights include "All For One" and "The Immortal Ones," as well as "In Memory" and the dark, dramatic title track — both of which represented subtle but effective changes in direction suggesting the band realized it needed to evolve to stay relevant.

If you haven't heard Seven Seals for a long time or are curious about what all the fuss was about, this reissue is a solid addition to your power-metal library.
