The V: Now or Never

The V in question is Veronica Freeman better known as the lead vocalist from Benedictum, a band which I have never been a great fan of. The reasons for this dislike are mainly twofold, wholly unoriginal songs and Freemnan's over-the-top vocal persona which has never appealed to me at all. I have to be truthful and say that initially I wasn't overly thrilled with what I heard on Now or Never. Fortunately time has given me a different perspective.

When compared to Benedictum, Now of Never is more laid back, still populated with muscular guitars but much more melodic. Freeman herself is obviously fairly chuffed saying, "I had a lot of input and encouragement from Frontiers Records to try and stretch myself with different musical styles and approaches." The easiest way for me to describe these styles and approaches is to say that the album reminds me, almost at all times of Lee Aaron and I loved Ms Aaron in the 1980s this is a good thing. "L.O.V.E", "Again", and "Kiss My Lips" are all fine examples of the way in which Frontiers could move forward with artists who aren't two hundred years old and if there's the odd dud ("Spellbound") there's more than enough well-crafted melodic rock which borderlines the metal boundary here to suggest that another helping of The V will be welcome.
