Thunderheart: Night of the Warriors

The band was founded in 2013 by Willy Gascon (ex-Steel Horse) on guitars and Ricardo Lázaro (ex-Calibre Zero ex-Steel-Horse) on drums who found a vocalist in Javier Pastor, guitarist in Wild, another heavy metal band from Madrid. As a trio they started rehearsals in January 2014. During July and August, the band recorded their first album Night of the Warriors. Recordings were done in Madrid at Blue Cat Studios, mixed by José Ibánez at Monopolio Studios in Trujillo Alto (Puerto Rico, USA) and mastered by Brett Caldas at Tower Studios (Montpellier, France). The band describe themselves as, "a riff-oriented, catchy traditional Heavy Metal/Hard Rock band influenced by some of the greatest bands of the genre like Scorpions, Accept, WASP, Whitesnake and Saxon!"

If the NWOBHM floats your boat (and it tends to float mine) you can be confident in your purchase of Night of the Warriors and get ready to party like it is 1979. The title track itself is excellent being somewhat reminiscent of Iron Maiden jamming with HammerFall. The eponymously named "Thunderheart" is equally fine if derivative and therein lies both the charm and the problem of the album. Clearly the band has the musical chops to produce some fine music but perhaps if they expanded their horizons and tried to be themselves rather than their heroes the next album would be even better.
