Great Game, The: The Great Game

The Great Game consider their music to be, "Ageless yet new, crossing a myriad of styles and blending everything we know into one big pot, leaving no stone unturned." The band was founded by the original composer Mounzer Sarraf and is a democratic entity that strives to incorporate the background and musical influence of each musician. This is the key feature of the band that comes from all over Europe and crosses continents with members from the Middle East as well as North and South America. There's a whole lot going on within the confines of this debut album.

World Music (as it used to be called), rock, prog, jazz, blues, reggae, with some Latin American and Eastern European fusion all make themselves known. There's less subtlety in the song names and arguably the lyric but if you put the album on and listen to it in one go you'll be transported off into the ether and your life will be definitely enhanced. That's not to say that each track doesn't have its own unique qualities especially the jazzy "The Turning Of The Wheel Of Dhamma" and relatively angry "Religionism".
