Canadian pianist John Roney has four albums to his credit, his latest being Preludes, featuring only his piano. Here he has taken past works of classical, jazz and contemporary artists and has shaped these pieces in his own special way using his talent for improvisation. His playing is exceptional as his fingers wistfully seek out the lightest notes or bring a heavy touch when the mood requires. Whether playing classical or jazz, these songs will delight fans of solo piano. From the rollicking Gershwin penned "Allegro Ben Ritmato E Deciso" to the dramatic intensity of Chopin's "Lento" and "Largo" preludes, this album is brimming with a creative flair that only the best musicians are able to achieve. If you are unfamiliar with Roney's work now is as good a time as any to rectify that situation and give Preludes a spin. It will be an hour well spent.
