Civil War: Gods And Generals

Civil War was formed by four ex. Sabaton members that is keyboardist Daniel Mullback, guitarists Rikard Sunden and Oskar Montelius and drummer Daniel Myhr after departing the metal group in 2012. Vocalist Nils Patrik Johansson was recruited into the Civil War ranks, his prior works many would be familiar with fronting Astral Doors, Wuthering Heights and Lion's Share, and they also secured the services of Stefan "Pizza" Eriksson on bass. Though there have been some changes in recent times as Montelius and Eriksson are no longer Civil War members.

Performing melodic power/heavy metal and with a band name inspired by the American Civil War they wasted no time recording their debut Killer Angels. Killer Angels was quite successful despite lacking a widespread release outside of Sweden, though Civil War have since overcome this hurdle and changed to another label switching to Napalm records.

Don't brush this band aside thinking that Civil War are just going to sound like a a Sabaton cover act as besides the historical themes Civil War are clearly not Sabaton. The key difference of course is Nils Patrik Johansson who has a vastly different vocal style to that of Sabaton's front man. Gods And Generals is the title of Civil War's new album and "War Of The World" is the classic dynamic power metal opener where keyboardist Daniel Mullback impresses, a likeable heavy metal rocker"Bay Of Pigs" follows. Then we find a top song titled "Braveheart" telling of Sir William Wallace and is quite the dramatic number with a very catchy chorus enriched by that powerful vocal combination and , the effective sounds of bagpipes and marching drums lead us into "The Mad Piper" a song about Bill Millin the Scottish piper who is mostly known for playing the pipes alongside the troops as they went into battle during the D-Day landings. Civil War get heavier again ramping up the pace and going back in time to the American Civil War with "USS Monitor", while the still powerful "Tears From The North" is a much slower number , and next Civil War get their metal gallop on for "Admiral Over The Oceans". Civil War's mid paced metal takes us "Back To Iwo Jima", and the inspiration from the past continues as they unveil another slow and mighty song "Schindler's Ark" before closing with the energy levels at a high for title track "Gods And Generals".

With its many great tracks there's a lot to keep you entertained on Civil War's Gods And Generals.
