Wilderun: Sleep at the Edge of the Earth

Sleep at the Edge of the Earth was funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign and is the second Wildrun album following Olden Tales & Deathly Trails. The band suggests that, "The album follows one epic emotional journey from beginning to end, weaving through bombastic symphonic textures, delicate acoustic passages, and dark, furious metal riffs. With even more unexpected turns than before, Sleep at the Edge of the Earth is an eclectic odyssey into the mystic unknown."

Wilderun blend progressive elements (some complex time signatures and lengthy tunes) alongside vaguely symphonic folk metal. They aren't as obviously anthemic as say, the mighty Ensiferum but they do make a very pleasing sound. There is a pleasing mixture of sounds both instrumentally and vocally. Yes, there are grunts/growled vocals but it isn't overdone. Evan Berry (for it is he) deserves much kudos for his performance here but so do the rest of the band and surely it won't be long before they no longer have to fund and release their work independently as epic tracks such as "The Means To Preserve" and "The Garden Of Fire" need wide exposure.
