We Are Harlot: We Are Harlot

We Are Harlot has within its ranks seasoned hard rock veterans who you may well be aware of from elsewhere: Danny Worsnop (Asking Alexandria – vocalist), Jeff George (Sebastian Bach – guitarist), Brian Weaver (Silvertide – bassist), and Bruno Agra (drummer.) The album wasn't made available to SoT until quite close before its release date, so much so that as I type it is already in the UK album chart – no mean achievement for a newish rock band these days. That said, the band has some powerful allies in what is left of the British music press and it is easy to see why.

Without being in any sense ground-breaking We Are Harlot (the band and the album) hark back to a time when guitars ruled and weren't down tuned either. It's one of those albums where the songs fly by so if you dislike one it doesn't matter because there's another here already. It's about as deep as a puddle but the best songs ("The One" for instance) are really good – who doesn't love whoaing along to a pleasing tune? "Love For The Night" even throws in some boogie piano which is reminiscent of the Hellacopters and if you enjoyed that band or the Backyard Babies then you will dig the living daylights out of this one. We Are Harlot (the band and the album) are not exactly original (highly derivative if one wants to be hypercritical) but this is a fairly solid release and the concluding ballad "I Tried" is rather effective indeed.
