Furor Gallico aren't a small group as this Italian band actually have eight members,
which is due to the array of instruments that is incorporated into that music along with their
death metal style vocals. As Furor Gallico's sound includes the violin,
Celtic harp, tin whistles, bouzouki and the bagpipes. They do have quite a
strong presence in their songs and first taste of those traditional
instruments is on the title track "The Song Of The Earth", and its peaceful
introduction before the metal side of Furor Gallico comes into play.
The Songs From The Earth is the kind of album where I went in with high expectations. Was this the same "much
celebrated folk metal band" that had a "critically acclaimed self-titled
debut album" that I was reading about ? Well I'm not familiar with Furor
Gallico's debut but from my experience listening to The Songs From The
Earth that first album must have been something else, if these claims
are indeed true. Despite this The Songs From The Earth is still quite a mostly
enjoyable recording with ok production. "Squass" is my picks of those on The Songs From The Earth even though
the clean vocals aren't in English the music is so enthralling, with some
cool added touches like jazz input from the drums and bass this really is a fun tune.
