Solefald: World Metal. Kosmopolis Sud

Cornelius Jakhelln and Lars Are "Lazare" Nedland are the men behind genre-bending duo Solefald and World Metal. Kosmopolis Sud is their first offering in nearly half a decade and suitably was Norway and Tanzania, mixed and mastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Cathedral, Angelwitch, Grave Miasma) at Orgone Studio in London. Also appearing are drummer Baard Kolstad (Borknagar, ICS Vortex), bassist Alexander Bøe (In Vain), guitarist Petter Hallaråker (Rendezvous Point) and keyboardist Sindre Nedland (In Vain, Funeral) as well as Anania Ngoliga of Zanzibar on the kalimba and guitar.

Note the use of the term genre-bending in the above paragraph as it was chosen carefully. Solefald are difficult to fit into any given box. They have so many ideas musically, lyrically, genre-wise it is quite untrue. Their work is also vaguely difficult to describe although "Le Soleil" sounds like an African version of Rammstein I would venture. At times one could easily dance to the songs on the album before headbanging like crazy – actually this often occurs in individual songs! This is definitely a metal album yet also definitely not a metal album; "2011, or a Knight of the Fail" for instance is a melding of techno, crunching metal with a fairly emotive vocal thrown in for good measure. World Metal. Kosmopolis Sud is definitely one of the more intriguing releases of early 2015.
