Terveet Kädet: Lapin Helvetti

Here's a new release by the legendary Finnish hardcore punk band, a band that started back in 1980 and has long been praised by Max Cavalera and others. Sure, there have been plenty of lineup changes since the band's early days, but original lead singer Läjä Äijälä is still here, screaming and yelling in his inimitable style.

I've been a fan of hardcore punk rock since the mid-1980s, but I've never heard Terveet Kädet until now. That's my loss. These guys are awesome. I've often mentioned my love of bands like Minor Threat and Uniform Choice on this site; sometimes I've even asserted that there really isn't any punk rock like the hardcore music of the 1980s. I know there are plenty of varieties of punk rock, but to me there's nothing like the churning energy and power of what we may now call the old school. To me, that style still has plenty to say and plenty to do. Fortunately, the guys in Terveet Kädet do nothing less than deliver hard-hitting hardcore punk in just the way it was meant to sound. This is twenty-one minutes of punk rock gold. Enjoy.
