Sun And The Wolf: Salutations

Sun And The Wolf is a four piece psychedelic rock band based out of Berlin, Germany. Originally from Auckland, New Zealand they left their home country in 2008. Salutations is their second full length release.

In the band are Brodie White (guitar, vocals, keyboards, bass), Peter Mangan (guitar, vocals), Achilles Charmpilas (bass) and Mike Tweed (drums, percussion).

This is pure psychedelic goodness with a retro late '60s vibe coursing through its veins. Songs like the album opening "87 Years" with its steady beat and shards of psyche infused guitar and the fuzzed out psychedelia of "Settle Down" are two fine examples of the band's style. In the balladic "Ghetto Drum" the pace is slower with chiming guitar chords and trippy soundscapes whereas "Into This Mess" is a heavier piece, coming across like a '60s drug induced psychedelic haze. Very cool stuff.

Other highlights include the uplifting psyche pop of "The Fisherman", the heavy "Why We Are Not Fading" and the softly flowing "Never Sorry", ending the album on a wistful note. The Beatles and Badfinger come to mind.

If you enjoy '60s rock, Salutations should bring back fond memories of a time when music seemed to mean just a little bit more. Thanks guys for a job well done.
