Shredhead: Death is Righteous

I think it was Stephen King who wrote that we each owe a death. He's right. Death is part of life and is one of the few things every human being has in common. Sure, we coat it in mystery, but it's nevertheless a fact of life, something we have to live with. The title of this album—and I suppose its general theme—makes the same point. Death comes to us all; from the moment of birth, our bodies are burdened with a limited lifespan. It's the way it is. Whether, as this album's title suggests, this inevitability makes death righteous or not, I can't say.

Shredhead, an Israeli thrash band that now calls Germany home, is perhaps best known for its strong musical attack, one that includes plenty of heavy riffing, blistering guitar solos, and occasional doses of groove. The music on the album begins with the fast and powerful track "Devil's Race" and quickly moves several tracks that show off this band's ability to thrash. I especially liked the opening riffs of tracks like "LPBZ" and "Death is Righteous." Things slow down only once—on the track "I Hate Myself"—but quickly pick up once again for the album closer "I Am." The bottom line is that Shredhead knows how to thrash and belong in the company of such giants as Testament (one of the band's major influences) and The Haunted. Fans of Pantera should also find something to enjoy here too. Check out the band's Facebook page: it's got a South Park style picture of the band and links to a video that have a similar comic vibe.
