Sacral Rage: Illusions in Infinite Void

Illusions in Infinite Void is the Cruz Del Sur debut from Greek melodic speed metal/thrash/prog act Sacral Rage, a band who seem well versed on some of the legends from the '80s such as Watchtower, Annihilator, Vicious Rumors, Jag Panzer, Fates Warning, Judas Priest, Rush, Iron Maiden, and Mercyful Fate. The band are comprised of Vaggelis F. (Drums), Marios P. (guitar), Spyros S. (bass), and Dimitris K. (vocals), and together they have crafted 9 intricate and exciting heavy metal songs that are satisfying on many levels.

With the complex textures of say Hemispheres era Rush molded with scorching guitar led thrash ala Annihilator, it's not hard to fall in love with a song like "Lost Chapter E. Sutratma", which just kicks ass from start to finish. Dimitris' high pitched wailing soars over frantic technical speed metal fare such as "Panic in Urals (Burning Skies)" and "En Cima Del Mal", and he reminds of ex-Fates Warning shrieker John Arch on the venomous "Waltz in Madness". The crushing, complex riffing on the mostly instrumental "Into Mental East" is pretty mind blowing, while the near 15-minute closer "Lost Chapter E. Amarna's Reign" fully takes the band into sprawling, progressive speed metal territory, with no shortage of acrobatic rhythms, dark atmosphere, and inventive riffery.Ultimately, Illusions in Infinite Void is quite impressive, quite enjoyable, and a platter of molten heavy metal from a band that I surely want to hear more from in the future.
