Ingested: The Architect of Extinction

Pummeling...that's the only way I can successfully describe The Architect of Extinction, the latest Century Media release from Manchester's deathcore/'slammin' death metal' act Ingested. This one never lets up from the start, as "The Divine Right of Kings" brutalizes you from the opening notes and it continues all the way through "Rotted Eden". Yes, this is crushing, brutal, in your face extreme metal, with riffs so pulverizing they will lay waste to mountains, guttural growls & grunts so fierce they could peel paint, jackhammer blasts so intense they will make your head explode, and savage breakdowns so monstrous they could insight a riot. Is all this good heavy metal though? Well, that is open for debate. I for one am convinced that the whole 'deathcore' thing ran its course a few years ago, and there are so many bands out there doing something so similar to Ingested it's not even funny. What these guys do however is pretty damn good; despite the totally unoriginal nature of The Architect of Extinction, this album is unbelievably brutal, so uncompromising in its delivery, that you have to give the band credit for the overall execution here. The vocals are venomous and quite evil, the riffs murderous, and the drumming chaotic. Do many of these songs sound the same? Absolutely, but man, a few of them completely kill nonetheless. I wouldn't say that The Architect of Extinction is ultimately my cup of tea, but I respect what they do, even though they bring nothing new to the extreme metal table. If you revel in deathcore though, you'll need this one in your collection.
