A band that have many influences and are creating their own path is StarGazer, a three piece progressive death metal act that reside in Australia. StarGazer are closing in on 20 years, and it's surely a matter of quality over the quantity of albums that this band has produced. As Stargazer's latest A Merging to the Boundless is only their third full length album release.
Vocally it's a mix of deathly growls along with the occasional Immortal style grunts, and StarGazer's not afraid to experiment as their compelling music sure isn't predictable. StarGazer's members are so in synch with each others playing as this is one consummate outfit. A Merging to the Boundless opens with the intense side of StarGazer on show with "Black Gammon", "Old Tea" is a varied track, one minute their drummer is laying down intricate patterns and tasteful fills, then switching to extreme mode blasting away at blistering pace with his thunderous kicks. You can't go past such inclusions as the absorbing title track and a number with extra duration and a great example of StarGazer's riveting musicianship is "The Grand Equilizer".
A Merging to the Boundless isn't one of those formulaic run of the mill metal releases, StarGazer truly are one of the more innovative extreme metal groups.
