Bullet: Storm Of Blades

Swedish band Bullet's latest release is Storm Of Blades, Bullet aren't just starting out having formed in 2001. This their fifth album is also the first with lead guitarist Alexander Lyrbo who joined the band in 2012.Storm Of Blades is packed with catchy material in an Judas Priest, Accept and also an AC/DC kind of vein.

Bullet's vocalist the one referred to as "Hell Hoffer" sure is an acquired taste. Not the greatest vocals I've heard sounding a touch like Bobby Blitz, though in comparison his are far easier to digest and preferable. Storm Of Blades is the sort of album you would expect of such a band so if you like your music rocking hard well it's here to be heard. Bullet show what a potent heavy projectile they are on the Storm Of Blades with their guitars blazing on the classic styled heavy title tune, other tracks worthy of mention include "Tornado" which has an AC/DC feel and the heavy pumping "Hammer Down".

Storm Of Blades is the sort of album where as much as I try I just can't get past the lead vocals. I don't mind the music of Bullet at all but as a total package it just doesn't do it for me.

Bullet: Storm Of Blades

My Score:

Very solid release here from Swedish old school metal act Bullet, titled Storm of Blades. If you happened to grow up as a metal fan during the early '80s when bands like Accept, Judas Priest, Saxon, and AC/DC were really starting to make waves, chances are you are going to have a lot of fun with Bullet and their brand of anthemic, NWOBHM styled music. Instantly memorable fare such as "Riding High", the AC/DC influenced "Tornado", the riff-fest "Hawk Eyes", or the blazing "It's On" all contain high-octane guitar work and shrieking vocals, basically the formula for quality heavy metal. "CrossFire" and "This One's For You" both bring to mind Point of Entry era Judas Priest, while "Run With the Hunted" recalls vintage Saxon with its crunchy riffs and 'fist in the air' styled chorus.

Honestly, this is a really easy album to like if you love the era of metal that Bullet is drawing from. No, Storm of Blades isn't going to change the world as far as originality goes, but you have to give these guys credit for channeling in on a certain sound and really delivering some heavy, catchy, and most of all, fun heavy metal songs. Can't ask for more than that! Enjoy!
