Centinex: Redeeming Filth
I love to comment about album art I like. On this album, I can't quite describe the whole thing, but I can certainly see that it's some kind of resurrection scene—but not a good one. The picture seems to represent a bunch of grave stones coming to life, as though the grave is not only giving up its dead, but somehow possessing the world around it. It's a strange idea, but the execution is dark and cool and interesting, much like the music on this album.
Musically, Centinex creates brutal and destructive blackened death metal. There are occasional breaks, times when the music slows up a bit, takes a breath. For the most part, though, this album is fast and punishing, a strong and impressive release. The lyrics are pretty consistently dark, sometimes even apocalyptic. Although I liked the album as a whole, I have to highlight one track: "Most Purple Skin." Title aside, it's a good track, but the chorus is not exactly the kind of thing you'll want to sing along to in the shower, especially if your skin is clean and healthy. This is death metal done right.
