Hateful Abandon: Liars-Bastards
The cover art on this album helps me make sense of the music. The picture is not entirely clear, but I can make out what look to be police officers in riot gear. Superimposed over the people—and not all of them are cops—is a symbol of the British flag. I think the juxtaposed images of police officers and the flag is a helpful guide to the music and the message of this album. From start to finish, things are confused and crazy, anarchic and anxious. It makes for an intriguing listen.
More to the point, the music on this album is derived from a complex of sounds, things that range from post-punk to industrial music, to sheer anger. I really liked the beats the guys created (the two band members go by the names of Vice Martyr and Swine). I also liked the dark sense of foreboding the guys created on most of the tracks.
I have never been a fan of this particular musical style. There were things about the album I liked, but it is not a release I plan to listen to again. I listened to it with an open mind and was intrigued by the experimental qualities of the album, but I think this one is more for the die-hards than the newbies.
