Various Artists: Rockin' the Wall-How Music Ripped the Iron Curtain (DVD)

Based on the best-selling book Seven Events That Made America America by Larry Schweikart, the documentary Rockin' the Wall-How Music Ripped the Iron Curtain takes a look at how rock music effected the culture & lives of music fans behind the Iron Curtain throughout the years. We all know how the growing rock scene affected people in the '60s & '70s throughout the Vietnam war era, but this is an intriguing look at a different part of the world during that same time period and beyond, with interviews from music fans from Russia, Germany, Bulgaria, and Hungary as they describe how Western musical artists impacted their lives. With commentary from Mark Stein & Vinny Martell (Vanilla Fudge), David Paich (Toto), Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, Ozzy, Whitesnake, Dio), Jimmy Haslip (The Yellowjackets), Robby Krieger (The Doors) and members of Mother's Finest, you get a nice cross section of opinions on the impact of rock music from an international perspective and how amazed they were to see the love from the fans once they were finally able to play to audiences behind the Iron Curtain. With some vintage & new live footage specifically from Vanilla Fudge and Mother's Finest mixed it, this is an cool little documentary about a topic that's rarely been covered before.
