Transmission0: 0

That's right. Just 0. As in Zero. I'm gonna give 0 an 8, though, because this stuff is awesome, dude!

Dark, roiling and uncomfortably compelling, Transmission0 is hailed as a hardcore band from The Netherlands, but there's so much more going on here. The music itself is quite progressive, with some songs beginning quietly before culminating in devastating aggression. The eight-minute opener "Journey" and the moody, equally long instrumental "Serenity" aurally illustrate that point. Two radically different vocalists give Transmission0 a lethal edge, as the band melds extreme hardcore with melodic spaciness and almost Porcupine Tree-like subtlelty. Even the pointless, industrial drone of "**" and the shoddy, hard-to-read packaging are forgivable, considering how textured, mature and engrossing the album remains as a whole. I'm surprised. And impressed.
